Remember Me Thursday® aims to unite individuals and pet adoption organizations on the fourth Thursday in September to be an unstoppable, integrated voice advocating for orphan pets to live in forever homes, not die waiting for them.  On Remember Me Thursday® light a candle to shine a light on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption and encourage communities to opt to adopt and reduce the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.

“Millions of beautiful, adoptable pets will lose their lives in 2017,” stated Mike Arms, President and CEO of Helen Woodward Animal Center.  “We all come from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds, but together, we can raise our voices and share one life-saving message and literally save millions of pets on this one day.”

Remember Me Thursday® asks organizations and individuals to dedicate the fourth Thursday of September, annually, to remembering the millions of healthy orphan pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home.  (The Humane Society of the United States approximates this number at 3.4 million annually in the US.)  Individuals are encouraged to get the entire world talking about pet adoption by tweeting, tagging, posting and sharing the beauty and life-saving significance of pet adoption on social media using #RememberTheRescue; adding their rescue pet photo to the #RememberTheRescue Photo Wall for a chance to win funds, food, and toys for a shelter or rescue close to their hearts; lighting a virtual candle on-line at www.remembermethursday.org; and most importantly by always adopting and encouraging friends and family to do the same.

“VVAPL Humane Society sees so many wonderful pets that are simply abandoned because their owners had to move or didn’t understand the time and care that a pet requires,” said VVAPL Media & Community Relations Director Terry Saenz. “Millions of beautiful, healthy orphan pets die every year without the benefit of a loving home, simply because the public is not aware of how truly amazing these animals are.”

VVAPL Humane Society asks everyone to stand with us.  Light a candle on this day to honor and remember the pets who bring unconditional love to our lives and always encourage people to opt to adopt.
