VVAPL Blog

Caruth as their top Volunteers for 2017.  They were recently honored at the City of Hesperia Volunteer Network’s 6th Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.  This year Emily Caruth was also awarded the 2017 Volunteer of the Year by the Hesperia Volunteer Network for her dedication and commitment to helping dogs find homes.

Besides walking dogs and assisting prospective pet parents in the adoption center and at off-site adoption events, Roy has been instrumental in many dogs finding homes.  Through her social media networking, 52 dogs were adopted, and 20 were transferred to no-kill rescues.  Susanne’s social media campaigns reach an amazing amount of people, resulting in dogs going to homes in various parts of California, other states and Canada.

Raising two special needs dogs taught Dysart how to give dogs the love and care they need.  Dysart is in the adoption center every Saturday assisting prospective pet parents, teaching dogs basic obedience, playing with the dogs, and socializing them with other dogs.  He gives extra attention to dogs remaining in the adoption center over a month to prepare them for a home.  Joshua goes the extra mile by either donating money or food every three months.

Caruth uses her experience about breed and temperament to help VVAPL’s dogs.  Every Saturday Caruth notes any dogs that need extra TLC.  Then she walks dogs, takes them for runs in the play yard, gives them obedience training and socializes them with other dogs.  She also cleans kennels, answers questions from prospective pet parents and lets families interact with the dogs to see if it’s a good match.  Caruth considers herself an extra pair of eyes and ears for the welfare of animals and is a pawsitively excellent choice for Volunteer of the Year.
