Snowline Joint Unified School District held a district-wide donation drive to help five animal organizations in the High Desert to celebrate April’s Animal Awareness Month. Baldy Mesa Elementary School in Phelan chose to support VVAPL Humane Society. The school kicked off their event with a student rally featuring VVAPL Humane Society Ambassador Dog Millie. The students learned about the humane society, and Ambassador Dog Millie taught them how to pet a dog safely. Drive coordinator, second grade teacher Tammy Fronsman, added some fun with a contest between the upper classes and lower classes.
The school collected 400 items and close to $110. Mrs. Norris’ first grade class won the lower class honors by collecting 88 items and $40. Their prize – color the Animal Awareness Donation Drive Banner, which will be displayed in the school. Mrs. McClain-Brooks’ fourth grade class won the upper class honors by collecting 38 items. Their prize – design next year’s banner.
VVAPL Humane Society is extremely grateful to the students, teachers and staff for their generous donations to help us care for the many animals that come through our doors. We give you a big WOOF! WOOF! MEOW! And Two Paw Up!
