Animal-lovers and animal welfare organizations across the globe will unite on Thursday, September 25, 2014 (the fourth Thursday of September, annually) for the 2nd Annual Remember Me Thursday™ pet candle-lighting ceremony. The candles, lit on the exact same day across the world, will honor the millions of pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home and shine a light on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption. The Remember Me Thursday global awareness campaign encourages individuals to light a candle this day (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.
VVAPL Humane Society will hold a 2014 Remember Me Thursday event. Details will be announced soon, but don’t forget to save the date and plan to be part of this important event.
"PETS OF THE WEEK"
A tiny girl with a big heart…Lolita is ready to fill your home with love. She is a 6.8 pound 2-year-old Long Hair Chihuahua Mix. She came into the humane society pregnant and gave birth to two precious pups. Both pups quickly found homes, and now it’s time for mommy Lolita to find her forever home. Lolita is a fun girl. She loves to go for walks and play. When you call her, she’ll come running. This friendly girl will sit in your lap, cuddle in your arms and give lots of kisses. She adores being caressed and getting belly rubs. This smart girl is also housebroken. She’s good with children, dogs and cats. In fact she prefers having another family pet in the home, but if she’s the only pet, she’ll need to have a stuffed animal to keep her company. Come down and meet sweet Lolita. She’ll be yours the minute you cuddle her in your arms.
Are you looking for the perfect kitty…friendly, fun and affectionate? Well, Ally is the perfect kitty for you. She’s a 14-week old light colored Tortoise Shell. She’s a bit shy at first, but within minutes, with a little caressing, Ally will be in your arms or on your lap purring up a storm. She absolutely loves affection, especially snuggling up against you so you’ll pet her. This friendly girl also likes to play. Dangle a cat toy in front of her, and she’ll swat at and pounce trying to catch it. Ally is good with children, cats and dogs. Come down and meet Ally. Give her a chance to snuggle her way into your heart.
